Step 2 — Counterflow wort chiller

Counterflow chiller included by default.

Full-size counterflow wort chiller + Essentials Kit sized to your batch. Sanitary 1.5" TC fittings, in-line on the knockout path from Boil Kettle to fermenter. About 85% of buyers keep it; deselect if you already own one.

Step 3 — Custom brewing table

Optional welded stainless table.

Welded stainless table sized to your three vessels — integrated floor drains, pre-fitted mounts for both pumps and the chiller, brewing-height workflow with recirc + sparge paths routing cleanly underneath. Adding it forces LTL palletized freight on the whole order regardless of size.

System anatomy

Three vessels. One architecture.

Every HERMS is built on the DrainPro vessel platform — same 304 stainless, same TIG welds, same 1.5" tri-clamp layout. The HERMS coil installs into the HLT with a sanitary compression-to-tri-clamp adapter — serviceable and replaceable, no permanent welds inside the HLT. The rest of the plumbing comes pre-cut with TC fittings on both ends.

Step 1

01 · Hot Liquor Tank — heat & hold

Heats strike + sparge water, and acts as the mash thermostat. The submerged HERMS coil exchanges heat into the recirculating wort during step mash — HLT temperature dictates mash temperature. Tri-clamp HERMS coil (compression → TC), heating element TC mount, outlet port to MT.

Step 2

02 · Mash Tun — mash & lauter

DrainPro mash vessel with false bottom. Recirculation pump pulls wort from the bottom drain, through the HLT coil, back to the top — continuous step mash, no tilting. False bottom · fine-perforated, recirc supply + return ports, hinged grain door on 15G and larger.

Step 3

03 · Boil Kettle — boil & whirlpool

DrainPro boil vessel. Whirlpool port pulls a tight trub cone; bottom drain pulls clean wort to the fermenter through the counterflow chiller. Whirlpool TC port, heating element TC mount, 1.5" TC bottom drain + outlet.

A HERMS brew day, end to end

Six stages. One continuous loop.

HERMS earns its name in the recirc loop — wort never leaves the mash, but climbs through programmed step temps via the HLT coil. The full brew day from strike heat to knockout, on one platform.

Step 1

Strike — HLT heats strike water

Element brings the HLT to strike temperature under simple eBräu control. Pump strike water into the MT through the recirc supply port and onto the grain bed. False bottom traps the grain over a clean slope.

Step 2

Step mash — recirc through HERMS coil

Pump pulls wort from the MT bottom drain, through the HERMS coil submerged in the HLT, back to the top of the MT. HLT temperature dictates mash temperature — run programmed steps without scorching the grain.

Step 3

Vorlauf — clarify the wort

Slow the recirculation, let the grain bed filter the wort clean. Watch the sight glass on the vorlauf arm — break transfer to the Boil Kettle when it runs bright.

Step 4

Sparge — HLT to MT, MT to BK

Hot sparge water from the HLT enters the top of the MT while wort drains out the bottom to the Boil Kettle. Bottom drain pulls a complete transfer with no left-behind volume.

Step 5

Boil — Boil Kettle

BK element brings the wort to a rolling boil — boil-over protection ramps element power back the instant foam climbs the wall. Hop additions through the lid; whirlpool port at flameout pulls a tight trub cone.

Step 6

Knockout — drain to fermenter

Bottom drain pulls clean wort from outside the trub cone, through the counterflow chiller, into the fermenter. Whirlpool keeps debris in the kettle; bottom drain leaves no dead space.

What's included

A turnkey hot side.

What's the same across every size: identical vessel architecture, identical port layout, identical hardware, identical electrical kit (up to 6 kW on a 30A circuit). What changes at 10G: no hinged grain door on the Mash Tun. 20G, 30G, and 50G all ship with the welded, hinged side grain door.

HERMS Electric Brewery · turnkey hot side
  • DrainPro Hot Liquor Tank (sized to vessel) 304 stainless, fully TIG-welded, mirror polished. HERMS coil included — compression fitting adapted to sanitary 1.5" tri-clamps so it lifts out for service, cleaning, or replacement. Sized to the vessel.
  • DrainPro Mash Tun (sized to vessel) Same vessel as our standalone Mash Tun. False bottom, 1.5" TC bottom drain, recirc supply + return ports, butterfly valve. Hinged grain access door included on 20G / 30G / 50G builds.
  • DrainPro Boil Kettle (sized to vessel) Whirlpool port, 1.5" TC bottom drain + outlet, butterfly valve, CIP lid TC port. Element port pre-cut and fitted.
  • Full tri-clamp hardware kit Every clamp, EPDM gasket, end cap, and butterfly valve for all three vessels. Sanitary 1.5" tri-clamp throughout — the same standard used in commercial breweries.
  • Etched volume markings Stamped into each vessel wall. US gallons + litres. No floating ruler to lose.
  • 2× food-grade brew pumps Sized to vessel. One for the recirc loop, one for transfers + whirlpool. High-temp magnetic drive, sanitary TC inlet + outlet. Both switches wired into the controller face plate. Not pre-mounted — pump mounting is your responsibility unless you add the brewing table (Step 3).
  • ULWD heating elements — HLT + BK Ultra-low-watt-density to avoid scorching. TC-mounted into the pre-cut port on each vessel — no drilling, no Weldless adapters.
  • 3-vessel eBräu controller Independent loops for HLT, MT, and BK. Simple, non-programmable interface — no menu trees, no auto-tune. Boil-over protection ramps element power back the instant foam climbs the wall. 2 pump switches wired in, alarm relay, RTD probes for every heated vessel. Up to 6 kW output on a 30A circuit. Designed to work out of the box. Forever serviceable.
  • 2× RTD temperature sensors Sanitary TC-mount. Read mash-out temp at the MT return so PID tracks the wort, not just the HLT.
  • High-temp silicone tubing set Pre-cut lengths with TC fittings on both ends. Recirc, sparge, and chiller paths covered. Rated above boil temp.
  • Steam condenser · universal Mounts in the Boil Kettle lid's 1.5" TC port. Condenses boil-off vapor to water so you can brew indoors — no exhaust hood, no humidity, no smell. Same condenser we ship standard on every BräuPro.
  • CIP spray ball Sanitary spray ball with TC mount. Clamps into any vessel's lid port for closed-loop CIP — caustic, acid, and rinse cycles return through the bottom drain without manual scrubbing.
  • Sparge arm Early-June batch Mounts to the MT return port for even sparge water distribution across the grain bed. Under review for future production runs — included on this batch.
  • Vorlauf arm with sight glass Clamps onto the MT return port. Watch the wort clarify during vorlauf; break transfer when it runs bright.
  • Counterflow wort chiller + Essentials Kit Optional · Step 2 Sized to your batch. In-line on the knockout path from BK to fermenter. Bundled with Essentials Kit (hose set + connection hardware). Add in Step 2 for $425.

*Sparge arm included on the early-June production batch — under review for future runs. The counterflow chiller is the only configurable line in this list (Step 2); every other component is identical across sizes. Adding the brewing table (Step 3) forces LTL palletized freight on the whole order regardless of size.

Common questions

About the HERMS Electric Brewery.

I'm in the US — will I get hit with tariffs, duties, or brokerage fees?+

No. Every price on this site includes free continental US shipping, and we prepay all duties, tariffs, and brokerage on your behalf. You won't get a courier collect-on-delivery for surprise import fees days after your order lands. The price you see is what you pay. (Alaska, Hawaii, and international freight — contact us for a quote.)

Which size should I buy?+

10G for 5-gallon batches. 20G for 10-gallon batches and larger grain bills — first size with the hinged grain door. 30G for 20-gallon batches or pilot capacity. 50G for ~1 BBL pilot operations. All sizes run on a 240V / 30A circuit with up to 6 kW total output. Architecture and fittings are constant across the line.

What's the deal with pre-order?+

All configurations on this page ship August 2026. Order now to reserve a build slot in our limited production run — full payment at checkout, no balance to chase later. Same warranty, same parts kit, same controller across every size. Email us for firm ship windows as we get closer.

Why doesn't the 10G come with a grain door?+

At 10G the spent grain charge is small enough to remove without a side door. At 15G and larger, the charge is heavy enough that a hinged side door is the cleanest removal path — shovel out at waist height rather than lifting out the top. Every other component is identical across sizes.

Should I add the counterflow chiller?+

If you don't already own a chiller sized to your batch, yes — bundled with the Essentials Kit (hose set + connection hardware) at + $425. Ships pre-fitted with TC ends on the BK→fermenter path. Skip it only if you have an existing counterflow you trust, or you prefer running an immersion chiller in the kettle. About 85% of buyers add it.

What do I still need to supply?+

Power (120V outlet for 10G, 240V / 30A circuit for 20G + 30G + 50G), water hookup, a fermenter, and the grain. That's it. Everything inside the brewhouse — vessels, coil, pumps, elements, controller, sensors, plumbing, vorlauf, CIP — ships in the crate.

Can I pair it with my existing fermenter?+

Yes — the BK outlet (or chiller outlet, if included) is standard 1.5" tri-clamp. Plug-and-play with our Unitanks, or with any fermenter that takes a TC inlet. NPT fermenters need a 1.5" TC-to-NPT adapter; we can include those at checkout.

When does it ship?+

All sizes & configurations are pre-order, shipping August 2026. Full payment at checkout — no balance to chase later. Vancouver, BC made-to-order. Free continental US shipping; 10G / 15G / 20G ship via standard freight, 30G / 50G ship LTL palletized. If you add the brewing table (small for 10/15/20G at $1,099, large for 30/50G at $1,399), the whole shipment goes LTL on a skid regardless of size.

How does it compare to Unibräu or BräuPro?+

HERMS is the traditional three-vessel hot side — separate HLT, MT, BK — for brewers who want classic recirc mashing and don't want to compromise on volume in any one vessel. BräuPro is our two-vessel system: mash tun + Unitank, brew and ferment without moving wort to a third vessel. Unibräu is single-vessel BIAB. All three share the same DrainPro architecture and tri-clamp parts kit.

What's the warranty?+

2-year full warranty on every weld, every TC port, every pump, every element, and the controller. Lifetime parts support — every gasket, clamp, and consumable is standard sanitary tri-clamp hardware. Serviced, not replaced.
