Standard Sanitary Connections for Brewing Equipment

Overview

Tri-clamp (also called tri-clover or sanitary) fittings are the industry standard for sanitary brewing connections. Known for their cleanability, strength, and ease of use, they form a tight, tool-free seal using a gasket, clamp, and ferrule interface.

All Bräu Supply components using 1.5″ tri-clamp connections are built from 304 stainless steel and designed for long-term durability in high-heat, high-sanitization environments.

How to Assemble a Tri-Clamp Connection

  1. Clean and sanitize all contact surfaces: gasket, ferrules, and clamp.
  2. Place the gasket between the two ferrule faces.
  3. Align the ferrules so the gasket is seated evenly.
  4. Wrap the tri-clamp around the ferrules and tighten the wing nut by hand.
  5. The connection should be snug and evenly compressed — no tools needed.

💡 Do not overtighten. Hand-tight is typically sufficient for a secure, leak-free seal.

🛠️ Compatible Hose Connections

  • For barb fittings, push flexible hose (e.g., silicone) over the barb until fully seated.
  • For quick disconnect (QD) or threaded ends, follow product-specific instructions.
  • Secure tubing with a clamp if operating under pressure.

🧼 Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Disassemble all tri-clamp fittings after each use.
  • Soak parts in brewery-approved cleaner such as PBW.
  • Use soft brushes for interior surfaces if needed.
  • Rinse thoroughly with hot water and sanitize before reassembly.
  • Dry thoroughly and store with clamps loose to prevent gasket compression.

⚠️ Inspect gaskets regularly for nicks, cracks, or deformation. Replace as needed to maintain a sanitary seal.
